Really, having attendants is about honoring people important in your life, and giving them a special role in the event. I think this is exactly it. It's a beautiful day to honor the bride and groom. But really for the bridesmaids its like a YEAR or more of talking about flowers and dresses and hair (one of the bridesmaids for my sister just emailed me about where we are to have brunch and get our nails done NEXT OCTOBER. Can you even make a reservation that far out???). It's nice for the bride to bask in her joy, but totally sucky for the people that have to plan that. And you're made to feel like an asshole if you aren't "so happy for them!!!!"
