Paul, even when you find a good job, it can end up not being "THE job." Some times jobs are great for year or two, and then you end up needing to move on. I don't think there's a job that helps you to figure everything out. A lot of it is trial and error. And in order to keep on looking for a good job...ya gotta keep looking!

Some people have to move to a better area. Some people have to do a lot of hopping. But just ruminating over it and feeling sad won't help.

I usually leave jobs because I'm bored and I feel like I'm not challenged anymore. I don't need to do something that fulfills some life mission or whatever, but I need to feel personally challenged with lots of responsibility and new stuff to learn. Once I feel like I've mastered a job and it's no longer a challenge, I just get very "eh" about it. I don't do well with too much routine, structure or management. I need to feel like I can set my own path, explore what interests me in the job, grow, etc.
