fighting with someone from HR

did you ever feel like you had fight with a recruiter to get an interview?

i didn't have to fight with a recruiter to get an interview, but when i interviewed for my current job, i had a phone interview by an actual recruiter and then i had an on-site visit with 4 more interviews. One of the guys was a complete ass to me and goes, "i'll be honest with you, it's going to be really tough for you to get a job here without any applicable internships." i was thinking, you do realize i didn't lie to the recruiter about my experience...if it was going to be so tough, why would they even pay to bring me on-site (the company paid for my flight, my hotel, all my meals, AND sent me a $250 check to cover any "miscellaneous expenses"). He was the only one who acted so mean, and he probably gave me bad ratings...it's too bad the other three all liked me, and i got the job anyway. i'll never forget that though...i've held a grudge against him ever since.

okay...so you actually had this exchange w/ one of your now colleagues or managers and not a recruiter? or...? i'm not really understanding your post.

whatever/whoever, yeah, what he said may not have been so nice, but it may have been true and you may have just 'wowed' them in your interview. obviously they saw something b/c you got the job....so what's the big deal?

do you have to work with this guy regularly?

okay, so the way our hiring process for campus hires works is that candidates have an interview with a recruiter. Our recruiters are actually our engineers...for example, i'm a recruiter as are many of my colleagues. If you get a high enough rating from your recruiter, you are asked for an on-site visit at the location you'll be working at if hired. Pretty much, if you get asked for an on-site, the chances you'll be given an offer are very high unless you just really blow it. So when people come for on-site visits, they meet with people all day in the office they'll be working at. The people they meet with are supposed to interview them or talk to them...somehow gauge their leadership skills, their problem-solving skills, and their communication skills. they get rated again and those ratings are given to their would-be supervisor. a few days later, you get an offer.

so anyway...this exchange was with one of my current colleagues at my onsite visit, where he knows as well as anyone that once you get the onsite visit, you're as good as hired. and, yes, i have to work with him on a daily basis...his office is actually right next to mine. i will always have this feeling that he didn't want me hired.

Ok, a I used to work in insurance claims (was supposed to be an underwriter) 2ys ago but I hated it (there was family issues at the time too), so I went back to a country club where I worked during college. I've gone intereviews but nothing panned out. A member at the club, who's an high level excutive for a bank, and I were talking and he asked for my resume.
I sent it to him and we talked and was told a recruiter would be in touch.

So yesterday the recruiter calls and we talk and I get put on hold. He comes back, says that he has concerns like that it's great that I got a degree but that he doesn't feel like that I have tried to use it or will I did have a job right out of school. Or that if opportunity knocks will I answer.

At which point I tell him that when I finished school, 9/11 just happened and that many companies had hiring freezes and that many grad could not get a job. And that yes when opportunity knocks I woulds answer the door.

At which point he said someone would call me to set up interview and we go from there.

After I got off I was like you are going to judge my choices by a piece of paper, f you.
